Coach Michael Joyce
Michael Joyce is a teacher of Taijiquan, Classical Fencing and Women's Self-Defense. He started his martial arts training in 1994, and has studied and taken workshops in many different systems. While in college at St. Louis University, Joyce not only became obsessed with the art of Taijiquan, he also began to formulate the curriculum of what would become the Outfoxxed Program of Women's Self-Defense.
While finishing his studies at the University of NC at Greensboro for Exercise & Sport Science, Coach Joyce concentrated his efforts on the science and psychology of physical confrontations. Empowering women through self-protection workshops, lectures and educational materials is what he considers “Priority One” of his life's work.
Currently, Joyce is busy working on many projects including his 2nd book called OutFoxxed, an audio CD on verbal confrontations and his first fiction novel. He lives and works in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with his wife Jennifer, and their two dogs (Mei Li & Lucia).
Jennifer Joyce has been a student of the Outfoxxed program when she married Coach Michael Joyce in 2011. Ever since, she has enjoyed watching the connection in a student's eyes that she too holds power against a bigger, taller, stronger opponent. Through years of private lessons, attending workshops, and going to group sessions, Jennifer has helped Michael teach his classes. Though Jennifer is still learning, she loves to teach others. Her favorite is ground defense, but has felt most empowered by the Outfoxxed's standup techniques since she is only 4'11.
Currently, Jennifer is helping launch Outfoxxed's online presence in hopes of connecting with women world-wide. She and Michael hope to build a community to not just learn movements, but to discuss topics women struggle with today. Through fostering several online platforms, Michael and Jennifer yearn to make a powerful impact on women in teaching and providing the tools to be proactive in their self-defense no matter where they live.
